Nearby Activities

There's plenty to do around Eagles Nest, whether you're staying only for a few nights, or longer. We encourage you to visit some of the places around the area, and explore what the Modoc and Siskiyou counties have to offer. 

MEDICINE LAKE & GLASS MOUNTAIN

     In the warmer months, feel free to go up and visit the beautiful Medicine Lake, or even the nearby lakes surrounding it, such as Bullseye, Little Medicine, or even Payne Springs. They're great places for fishing, and even better for day trips.

     Nearby to the lakes is the Jot Dean Ice Cave. It's a beautiful cave that contains an amazing sheet of perpetual ice. Be sure to bring company though, and be safe and courteous, like with all caves.

     You can take a drive to visit Glass Mountain. Glass Mountain is a rhyolite and dacite obsidian flow. It's one of Modoc National Forest's unique geological features. You can walk atop the flow and explore the various views it hosts, or examine the interesting obsidian rocks. If you're lucky, you might even find some mahogany obsidian.

LOWER KLAMATH WILDLIFE REFUGE

     The Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge located in rural northeastern California and Southern Oregon, was established by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908 as the Nation's first waterfowl refuge.

LAVA BEDS NATIONAL MONUMENT

     The Lava Beds National Monument encompasses over 46,500 acres and contains the largest concentration of lava tube caves in the United States.

     Lava Beds National Monument has more than a thousand lava tube caves, 24 of which are developed caves, from easy to most challenging. The monument also offers trails through the rugged high desert landscape, giving you the chance to explore the various volcanic and historical sites.

     There is Native American rock art sites, and historic battlefields from the Modoc War (1872-1873), including Captain Jack's Stronghold.

FISHING AT THE RESEVOIRS

     There are three reservoirs F, C, Duncan that contain primarily bass and trout. They're available in the secluded Devil's Garden location. If you're looking to spend the day fishing, feel free to go there and enjoy.

TULE LAKE NATIONAL MONUMENT

     The National Monument includes both the the Tule Lake Segregation Center and Camp Tulelake. Whether you have half an hour or half a day, plan on stopping by the visitor center and various points of interest. If time permits, you could take one of the ranger guided tours between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
